Baktus, Baktuses (Bakti?)

I have been shamefully negligent in my blogposts -- partly because I've been travelling a lot, partly because I've been knitting like crazy, partly because I've just been plain lazy.

But now, here goes:


I have become addicted to the Baktus.

I've made four of these since the beginning of September.

First, we have the Lacy Baktus, which I made to go with a black dress and wear on my trip to San Francisco at the end of September (sent the dress back and am looking for another):

Next came this larger turquoise version out of Ironstone Skye. I also made this to wear in San Francisco, but it looked so good on my travelling companion that I let her have it (plus it was her birthday). Below is another friend modeling the scarf -- think she's a little camera shy.

Next is a lime green Baktus made also in Ironstone Skye. The model is the recipient, a/k/a Birthday Girl, a/k/a Traveling Companion. Ain't she cute?



And now we come the the final version made from Berroco Borealis. I don't have a good picture of the scarf, so I'm posting a few so you can see it from different angles. Plus, the background is just so gorgeous -- Greenbrier, just outside of Gatlinburg, TN.

When Good Knitting Goes Wrong

So, I wanted a Christmas hat to wear to a party my church is having for a small town in Appalachia in a couple of weeks. I've had this yarn hibernating in my stash for about a year -- not really my color and not my favorite weight (worsted), but in the spirit of waste not, want not, I went with it. I found this pattern on Raverly - The Guinan - and thought it was kind of cute.


How many ways can one hat go wrong?


#1 - The This-Hat-Must-Have-Been-Knit-For-One-Gargantuan-Head Look (and I must educate my photographer daughter in how to photograph from above so as to minimize the appearance of any multiple chinnage in the future.)

#2 The Star-Trek-Whoopi-Turban Look

(I have better eyebrows, or should I say, I have eyebrows.)

#5 And, finally, are those cat ears?

No. It's just that it's Monday and I can be evil if I want.

Make Do and Get It Done

I finished knitting my French Lace Camisole yesterday morning and blocked it. What does a body do when she has no blocking wires and a shortage of pins (and patience)? Bamboo skewers to the rescue. Other than being a little sticky and leaving behind a splinter or two, they worked perfectly for blocking the lace on the straps. (But I could really use some blocking wires -- hint to husband.)

I sewed on the straps tonight and tried it on. Hmm...a little big through the upper region (delusions of grandeur on my part, perhaps?). What do you think? Take it in just a bit with a seam on each side or throw it in the dryer for a bit? Suggestions?
