I've laid aside my morning knitting these last couple of weeks to play in the flowers. Before I had kids, and before I spent my free time tangle up in various bits of yarn, I was quite the avid flower gardener. (Sadly, vegetable gardening has just never sparked much excitement.)

Don't you just love an unopened rosebud? It's full of such promise. This bush was started by my mother, from a bush her grandmother started, from her great grandmother's bush. Thanks, mom!

Now on to my pet yarn project of the moment...I'm making the Fair Bianca from Tahki Yarn's Garden Variety booklet in black Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima.

The pattern is so easy and the yarn is such a delight (very soft and silky feel to it) that the project is clipping along at a very nice pace. I have both sleeves done and am about 1/3 up the back.

Happy Mother's Day

We celebrated Mother's Day at my house on Friday night. My older daughter made this framed collage of pictures from when she and her sister were little. I love it.

My younger daughter wrapped up a brownie mix box and promised to make those for me this weekend. She also gave me this handmade card - hilarious!

These 2 girls keep me laughing every day. I love them, and I love being their mom.

Flooded

You may or may not have heard about the disastrous flooding that occured over the weekend in the Middle Tennessee region, flooding parts of downtown Nashville, the Opryland Hotel, much of Bellevue, Kingston Springs (my little town), Pegram, and many other areas. Given other events in the national news, it is my understanding that much of the country knows little to nothing about what is happening here.

13-17 inches of rain fell in the region on May 1 and that volume of water had nowhere to go. Officials are calling this a 500-year flood. Most of the homes that were flooded are not insured for flooding, as they are not in a flood plain. Who would have ever thought the Opryland Hotel would have 6 feet of water standing in its beautiful conservatories? Who could imagine cars floating on I-24 or a school portable floating down the interstate like a houseboat? The Country Music Hall of Fame and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center took on water. Business on Lower Broadway are flooded, including the lower levels of the building I work in. So many have lost everything that it is absolutely heartbreaking. Keep our area in your prayers. Not only are folks here dealing with property damage and a mess that will take months to clean up, some have lost loved ones.
